For more than 15 years, our work in Zambia has shown us that lasting change isn't created by doing things for people. It grows when people have the resources, relationships, and opportunities to move forward for themselves.
Tiyende Circle exists to help create those opportunities.
We believe everyone deserves the chance to build a life with stability, belonging, growth, and independence.
Our Mission
We walk alongside individuals in vulnerable and transitional seasons, providing immediate safety and stability. From there, we build belonging, foster community, and create opportunities for growth.
Our goal is simple: that every person leaves more capable, more supported, and more connected than when they arrived—ready for the next phase of life.

Why Tiyende Circle?
Tiyende is a word in Nyanja (Chinyanja), one of the widely spoken languages in Zambia. It means “let’s walk” or “let’s move” and carries the idea of walking together.
We chose the name because it captures something we deeply believe: we move forward together.
Tiyende Circle is about creating a place where people can find stability, belonging, growth, and independence—and where no one has to move forward alone.
Meet Our Founder
Shelly Noftle
Founder + Executive Director
Since 2011, Shelly has worked alongside individuals, families, and communities in Zambia, building relationships and creating opportunities for people to grow and thrive. Her experience spans nonprofit leadership, fundraising, program development, entrepreneurship, and cross-cultural partnership.
Shelly founded Tiyende Circle to bring together what she has learned through years of working with people and communities: meaningful change begins with relationship, but lasting change requires stability, belonging and the opportunity to build a future of your own.
She brings both a deep commitment to people and a practical approach to turning ideas into action.
